Photographer Barbara Michelman began working in Hollywood in the 1970's. She was one of the first women in the film lighting union and worked in all the major studios. Her work ranges from product, travel, portrait , and concerts and events photography, to the more experimental fine art digital imaging and alternative process printing. She exhibits in the United States and Europe. Her work can be found in corporate and private collections on both continents. She holds a degree in philosophy from UC Berkeley.

Barbara Michelman's work reflects her philosophic interest in Nature's changing and immutable face, and in the question "What is reality?"
Her work continues to explore meaning through shape and form, expressing her belief that the environment is not an object outside ourselves but an exquisite living process in which we are all mutually engaged.
